Jim Wang is a member of the ASP.NET and Azure development teams at Microsoft. His latest book is Building ASP.NET Web Pages with WebMatrix.
Welcome to ASP.NET Web Pages! If you already know basic HTML and CSS and are looking to jump into the world of server-side programming, this book is for you. Alternatively, if you’re already familiar with another server-side programming language, such as PHP, and would like to learn about ASP.NET Web Pages, you’re also in the right place.
As of this writing, there are three main flavors of ASP.NET available to developers: ASP.NET Web Forms, ASP.NET MVC, and ASP.NET Web Pages with Razor Syntax. In my book I focus on ASP.NET Web Pages. It is the simplest and easiest to learn, and allows you to seamlessly place your logic and HTML in a single page. Through the use of Web Pages Helpers, you can also quickly add functionality created by other developers or share code across projects. If you are new to web development, you absolutely want to use ASP.NET Web Pages. If you are interested, feel free to download Chapter 4 – Your Blog: Get in Touch.
